In April 2024, JCD welcomed San'yutei Ponta from Tokyo to perform rakugo at the Detroit Institute of Arts, four locations in Michigan, and one in Chicago, bringing laughter to audiences. Ponta is the seventh apprentice of master San'yutei Koraku. He took the name Ponta II and has studied ghost stories and humanity stories, the specialty of the master San'yutei Encho. The performance was in Japanese, but an English translation was also projected on screen. Due to the difficulty of translating, JCD received a great support from a professor of Edo culture at the University of Chicago.
